A special program is happening within the Henrietta community allowing teenagers the ability to gain exposure to the pre-hospital medical profession often referred to as EMS. CHS Healthcare’s Explorer Post continues to grow and includes 20 local teens who train on CPR, First Aid and participate in ride-along on the ambulance to actual 911 calls.
The Explorer Post includes young adults age 14-21. They spend a minimum of two hours per month in meetings and other educational activities. The teens and are overseen by a team of adult advisors who are also full-time emergency medical services (EMS) professionals within the department. Those age 15 or older can elect to complete additional training and can then ride on an ambulance along with an EMT and paramedic to real 911 requests for EMS. Additionally, the Post participates in field trips, competitions and other engaging, educational activities.
High school students who have an interest in public safety and medicine can join the Post to see if EMS is a good fit for their future educational and career endeavors.
